Research Education
The care for the careers of emerging scholars and professionals at all stages in their careers is one of the main educational focuses at D-ARCH. The Department encourages and supports emerging scholars in submitting applications for national and international grants. At the same time, the Department remains committed to protecting and supporting the many bottom-up, self-driven initiatives developed by undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students and junior faculty.
Doctoral School
In order to provide a strong institutional fundament and to ensure the quality of research training at D-ARCH, the department runs the Doctoral School. The Doctoral School provides the general strategy for doctoral and postdoctoral education at D-ARCH, outlining the vision for supporting the development of researchers at doctoral level, and how the department intends to prepare staff for their future careers in advanced research roles. It is jointly led by the Director of Research and the Director of Studies (BSc/MSc Architecture) and provides an overarching structure for doctorates supervised by members of D-ARCH faculty, the Doctoral Programs of the Department, and for the Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture.
Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture
As a consecutive element of the promotion and support of junior scholars, since 2018, the department runs the Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture. Its aim is to enhance the research culture within the discipline of architecture and to ameliorate the career perspectives of emerging academics by improving the conditions for researchers, by providing opportunities for independent research work outside the traditional institutional structures.
