Hygiene, fresh air, and access to daylight were among the driving forces of Modernist architecture in the early 20th century. Since several decades, however, the issue of care and health moved into the hands of specialists.

In view of global warming, social inequality, migration, aging, and the increasing costs of medical treatment, the Department of Architecture plans to reactive and strengthen the competence of architects on care and health. Within the framework of the external page Rehab-Initiative of ETH Zurich, the Department of Architecture is planning the creation of a Professorship for Architecture & Care.

Which are the contributions of architecture, landscape architecture and urban design to prevention, inclusion, rehabilitation and the general quality of life? How should the next generations of architects be trained to address these challenges? And which are the most urgent field of research in this area?

The conference is free and open to the public, no registration necessary.
