CircÛbi or The Power of Persistance
Laudatio by Manuel Herz
The study project deals with the question of "Re-Use" and "Recycling" of elements from pavilions that were demolished on the campus of the ETH Hönggerberg for the due to the demolition of a new building. In an exemplary manner, this project dealt with the entire breadth of the process in its complexity. It was not only about the already challenging question of what designs can be developed from existing building components but also the interaction with various other disciplines, institutes and departments of the ETH, the fundamental theory and practice of the circular of the circular economy, the afterlife of the subsequent use (3rd life), building standards and their
and their (partly restrictive) impact on possible after-uses, digital fabrication, and finally fabrication, and finally the practical and technical execution of the construction project of the construction project on the ETH campus.
In this depth and seriousness, as well as in the understanding of practice as a form of research, we see the study project as exemplary. It is an academic work on the highest level!
With this project, the jury would particularly like to award the cooperation of all actors.
As is usually the case, this is not "just" about honoring one or more students, but about the contributions students, but rather the contributions of all those involved, especially the teachers, who have achieved outstanding things in their interaction. Ultimately
architecture is a collaborative discipline. This collaborative dimension is to be reflected through our award.
