"We hope to create stronger networks"

On Research Day on June 4, doctoral students at D-ARCH will present their work. Director of Research Silke Langenberg explains the motto of the day: "Listen to the Next Generation."

The research day takes place in the HIB Openspace.
The research day takes place in the HIB Openspace.

What is the aim of the research day?
Silke Langenberg: We would like to use the research day to exchange ideas about the research being carried out at the Department of Architecture. The work is not always known beyond the institutes or doctoral programs. We hope to create stronger networks so that we can then perhaps formulate new, interdisciplinary questions together.

What is the main topic this time?
This year we chose the title "Listen to the Next Generation" because we want to give the department's doctoral students a chance to speak and talk about their ongoing research, new ideas, and perhaps also challenges. The first research day at D-ARCH two years ago - initiated and organized by the former director of research Elli Mosayebi - was a great success. We learned a lot about the ongoing projects of other institutes. We would like to build on that. This time the stage will belong more to the doctoral students.

What is the program for the day?
In order to keep the effort somewhat lower than last time, we have scheduled the research day on a date of the "Aptitude Colloquium". This means that six PhD students will also present their research proposals for the first time on that day and the doctoral committee will decide together with the supervisors on admission to the doctoral program. Between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, there will be 20-minute lectures by four doctoral students from different institutes. This will be followed by short presentations on posters or digital screens by another 23 doctoral students during a paper bag lunch. I am pleased that the students are willing to take part in the research day and am excited to learn more about the interesting and diverse research work. I hope and assume that there is also great interest in the exchange from the professorships.
