Theo Hotz Partners Architects Sponsorship Prize

Through his work and his studio in Zurich, Theo Hotz (1928–2018) influenced and supported many young architects over a period of decades, and in various roles repeatedly provided tremendous assistance for architecture students at ETH Zurich. This was probably not least among the reasons he was awarded an honorary doctorate by ETH Zurich.

Theo Hotz Partners Architects are continuing this tradition and in addition to supporting young architects in the studio itself, they are also offering targeted support for students at ETH Zurich.

Judging procedure

All master’s degree theses submitted to the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich are considered for the prize. A jury – which is newly constituted each year and includes representatives of ETH Zurich, of the architecture students, Theo Hotz Partners Architects and national and international architects and artists – decides on the awarding of the prize. The judging procedure is deliberately carried out independently of the results of the educational assessment.

Prize money and award

The Theo Hotz Partners Architects Sponsorship Prize (THEO) is awarded in the amount of CHF 5000 per semester and takes the form of a travel grant. It is awarded to graduates of the master’s degree courses in the spring and autumn semesters as part of the master’s degree graduation ceremony in the Department of Architecture. The prizewinners are informed in advance and are able to present their intended travel plans personally.

The THEO Sponsorship Prize is to be awarded for the first time in the spring semester of 2018.
