How we Teach

Jour Fixe for Mittelbau

Each semester, we design a half-day Jour Fixe with and for mid-level faculty, focusing on a didactic theme specifically relevant to our architectural teaching practice. These events follow a three-part structure:

  • In short presentations, mid-level faculty members engaged in studios, core courses, seminar weeks, electives, disciplinary semesters, master’s theses, and other formats share practical examples from their teaching.
  • Through workshops, participants are introduced to didactic concepts and learn how to apply them in their own teaching.
  • Informal gatherings—such as collective brunches, lunches, or dinners—provide opportunities for exchange among participants.

Through this Jour Fixe, we strengthen the learning network among professorships and disciplines within the mid-level faculty, consolidate didactic approaches, reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of our own teaching practices, and generate impulses for further pedagogical development.
