Academic field information
Through built means, architects create, alter, and achieve a designed environment that meets the expectations and requirements of the individual and of society. Within the wider field of building, the architect’s responsibilities include the analysis of the status quo as the basis for creative thinking and production, as well as the rationalization of architectural interventions. She or he reflects the full spectrum of a society and translates it physically, developing proactive strategies to address social, economic, and environmental change. Architects work independently or as employees in architectural offices. They may also work in construction, administration, and large corporations, as well as in the areas of design, art, and culture.
