2. Time flow
General information Master's thesis is provided in German and English, but:
Dates and deadlines are only published on the German website.
Choice of the chair cooperations (cooperation partners) preferred by the students.
The registration portal (internal enrolment Master's thesis) contains the names of the eligible cooperation partners with their registration programme (PDF, max. 2 DIN A4 pages), containing the following information:
- Picture (not mandatory);
- title of the programme;
- Keyword-like description of the preparation and elaboration phase;
- Work to be done during the preparation phase (expectations);
- Ratio of the participation of the cooperation partners in the grading for the preparation and elaboration phase.
The Master's thesis topic and all specific programmes are published
the first day of term.
- Each programme is presented by the collaboration partners who prepared it.
- Time frames, deadlines and further information are communicated to the students.

The application to the Master’s thesis takes place no later than Friday of Week 35 (HS), Week 6 (FS), at 11.00 a.m. (CET).

Important:
It is the responsability of the students to gather missing credits after the Master-Thesis. Eventually, an additional semester must be considered (please check total duration of studies). To make the diploma request, credits form all categories must be taken. Additionaly, proof of an internship of at leat 6 month (on a 100% basis) must be delivered.

The duration of the preparation phase is 7 weeks.
- The grade at the end of the preparation phase is counted as 40% of the final Master's thesis overall grade.
- The involved chairs (lecturers) determine (depending on the programme) their participation in the grading for the preparation phase and specify this in the enrolment programme.
- Depending on the preparation work grade, the students decide whether they want to finalize the Master's thesis or break off. By middle of week 43 (in the autumn semester) respectively by middle of week 14 (in the spring semester) they announce clearly their abandonment to the Study Administration Office and to the accompanying chairs.
- A termination of the Master's thesis announced in good time (s. above) has no consequences for the student).
- Important: Depending on the student's decision the enrollment to the Master's thesis has either to be done or deleted at the same time.
- Kolloquium Preparation Phase
On Tuesday, Week 42 (autumn semester), Week 13 (spring semester) an all day colloquium to conclude the preparation phase, will take place. The findings of the different chairs will be discussed and compared.
The duration of the elaboration phase is 9 weeks.
- The grade at the end of the elaboration phase is counted as 60% of the final Master's thesis overall grade.
- The involved chairs (lecturers) determine (depending on the programme) their participation in the grading for the elaboration phase and specify this in the enrolment programme.
